History
June 2012 - Idea is hatched to develop a Dragonboat team focused around competitive training. Codenamed: Project Floaters. A team dedicated to developing its members to their fullest potential. At the time the idea was a moonshot and Project Floaters was tabled until more interest could be garnered.
Late 2013 - A group of friends and paddlers met up over [lots of] beer. They became jokingly known as the "founding five". Over numerous discussions, the framework of Project Floaters was created and the decision was made to move forward and attempt to create a new team in the San Francisco - Bay Area.
March 2014 - Joined by many friends and former paddlers, Project Floaters has enough members to begin training. Although the official team name is still under discussion, the team registered with the California Dragon Boat Association (CDBA) under it’s codename: Project Floaters.
April 2015 - Project Floaters obtains 501(c)(3) status, acquires two Champion dragon boats and moves practice facilities to Westpoint Harbor.
Today - We are still in the early stages of forming a new team. Being around Silicon Valley, we treat our team much like a startup. While we have four dedicated coaches, every member of Project Floaters has an equal voice and we encourage our paddlers to respectfully and appropriately give input to training/practice/team direction. The core of Project Floaters comes from many different backgrounds with years of paddling experience, we want to take advantage all our experiences (good and bad) to grow and mold our team during our first few years.
